Climate-Smart Living on Water – MEYER Floating Solutions and Honka Introduce Honka Floats
Turku, Finland – November 11, 2025 – MEYER Floating Solutions and Honkarakenne (Honka) have joined forces to bring sustainable massive-wood architecture into the rapidly growing floating infrastructure market. The partnership combines MEYER’s marine-engineering expertise with Honka’s massive-wood construction technology to deliver scalable, low-emission floating buildings for residential, hospitality, and leisure developments.

Engineering Meets Architecture
As cities face urban density, rising sea levels, and shrinking waterfront space, building on water offers a resilient and efficient alternative.
Through this collaboration, MEYER Floating Solutions and Honka introduce Honka Floats — a curated collection of seven customizable concepts designed for both private and commercial use. Each combines a highly engineered floating foundation with integrated technical and living spaces, and Honka’s precision-crafted massive-wood superstructure. The result is a healthy, climate-conscious building solution that can be produced efficiently through offsite modular construction.
Projects Underway in Germany
The first projects under the Honka cooperation are now moving forward in Germany:
- Floating Wave, a floating surf and lifestyle platform in Hamburg, featuring wellness, dining, and recreation spaces. The project is currently in the final stages of the planning application process with local authorities.
- A dual-use residential and office development in the Berlin-Brandenburg area, built on the same sustainable principles. The planning process is underway, and further details will be shared in due course.
Together, these projects demonstrate how the partnership enables fully customised floating architecture — each developed as a unique, site-specific solution that combines Honka’s massive-wood design with MEYER’s highly engineered floating foundation.
“We’re in a unique position globally — no other company can deliver floating real estate on this scale. Honka’s advanced massive-wood technology complements our marine-engineering expertise perfectly, and with over 90,000 Honka buildings delivered worldwide, we’re building on a legacy of proven quality and trust. Together, we can manufacture iconic, sustainable structures on water,” says Kaj Casén, CEO of MEYER Floating Solutions.
“The new Honka Fusion+ CLT log we’ve developed enables more ambitious and ecological wooden construction. By combining our wood technology with MEYER’s marine-engineering know-how, we can create environments that are both technically advanced and naturally healthy,” says Marko Saarelainen, The President and CEO of Honkarakenne.
A Partnership for the Future
Together, MEYER Floating Solutions and Honka are redefining how architecture interacts with water — uniting Nordic craftsmanship, industrial precision, and environmental performance.
The collaboration opens new possibilities for developers and cities seeking sustainable, wellbeing-driven overwater destinations.
